TitleNorth Pine Hotel, North Pine (Petrie), 1906DescriptionNorth Pine Hotel, North Pine (Petrie), 1906. The first hotel in the Petrie area dates from February 1872 when Edwin Willett was granted a country publican's licence to trade from Tom Petrie's hostelry, first referred to as Petrie's accommodation house around the time of the Gympie goldrush. The premises then became known as the North Pine Hotel. The new North Pine Hotel building, a two-storey wooden structure containing 22 rooms including 13 bedrooms, was opened on 7 April 1887 and was first located opposite the Police Station in River Street. The architect and contractor was C. Scheller and the owner/licensee was Henry Gottschalk. During 1906, the building was moved a short distance along River Street to the site of the present Petrie Hotel at the corner of Dayboro Road. The North Pine Hotel was finally destroyed by fire on 6 February 1956 and replaced by the Petrie Hotel, first known as the Hotel Purcell. In 1995, a local businessman, Paul Gothard, constructed a replica of the North Pine Hotel in the North Pine Country Park.Date1906CollectorJohn Oxley Library, BrisbaneRecord typePhotographFormat typePhysicalOriginal format colourBlack and whiteNotesReproduced in the publication Tracks and Times, p.124.
